Tweens Sunday School Class (grades 5-6)
Each Sunday from 9am-10:15am we meet in classes by grade-level to study the Bible and explore the life of faith. The Tweens class for grades 5-6 gathers in Room 306 with teacher Rachel Nance Woehler. We are studying “re:form” from Sparkhouse, the imprint of Ausburg Fortress, which empowers youth to explore theological questions of faith through scripture, conversation, multi-media and fun, hands-on activities each week.
Youth Sunday School Class (grades 7-12)
The Youth class for grades 7-12 gathers in Room 305 at 9:00am with teacher Eric Nance Woehler. Using the Feasting on the Word curriculum, we follow the lectionary scriptures each week and make intentional connections between the scripture and our lived-faith. Our study prepares us for the day’s worship and service in the sanctuary.
Youth Worship Leadership
Many of our youth serve in a variety of leadership roles during our 10:30am worship service on Sunday. They serve regularly as acolytes, lay readers, Junior Deacons, videographers, audio-visual techs in the sound booth, instrumentalists, and as members of the orchestra. Once a year, the youth prepare and lead Youth Sunday for the whole congregation.
During the school year, two weekly youth groups gather as spiritual friends for study, prayer, service, connection, and just to play. We offer two weekly youth groups during the school year. Chi Rho, for grades 6-8 and CYF (Christian Youth Fellowship) for grades 9-12.
Our youth are led by our youth minister and an amazing team of youth leaders (Dana Classen, Terri Jones, Dotty Short, and Page Warren). Each week, we explore a new topic from our faith lives with in-depth conversation and hands-on learning. The typical Sunday evening youth schedule is:
5 to 5:30pm – Gathering time in the Game Room and supper in Fellowship Hall for all youth with the Young Disciples group (grades 1-5) and volunteers
5:30-6:00pm – Group meetings for Chi Rho (Room 306) and CYF (Room 305)
6-6:20pm – Chi Rho and CYF large group recreation in the gym.
6:20-6:30 – Announcements and closing prayers.
Events, Retreats, Camps, and Mission Trips
Throughout the year the Chi Rho and CYF will have opportunities to take fun trips, celebrate holidays, serve God through special projects and mission opportunities, travel to spiritual and work retreats, join other West Area youth at the Ski Thing, attend summer church camp near Benton, Ky at our denomination’s Camp Kum-Ba-Ya, and participate in the Youth’s summer mission trip.
