Our Christmas Story

 Dear Friends,

On Thanksgiving Day I officially began to think about Christmas in my home.  After we all ate  and the kitchen was sort of cleaned – we all piled on the couch and turned on one of my favorite Christmas movies from my childhood, “A Christmas Story.”  I have my favorite scenes that I can almost have memorized. I love Christmas movies. I even love the cheesy Hallmark movies. I love the happy endings and the messages of love and joy.

Advent is a Christian season of preparation and waiting. It is a time to make room for  the birth of Christ anew in our lives. This Advent Season I am using some of my favorite Christmas movies to tell the story of Advent.  Each week the title of my message will feature a Christmas movie. This Sunday is all about hope, so I have chosen little Ralphie and his hope for his “Red Rider BB Gun” from “A Christmas Story.” The title of my message is, “You’ll shoot your eye out.”

I’ll also be talking a lot about John the Baptist and his own hope for the Messiah. John was a key player in “preparing the way” for Christ.

Each Sunday will feature a different movie, but on Sunday the 24th I have enlisted Alice Chaney and Jaimee Duncan and ALL the children and youth to help me finish telling the story that day. Sometimes when things are so big – so miraculous — we need more than words. We need music & images to tell a story as big as Christ’s birth! We are going to have children and youth of all ages help us tell the story with a nativity scene that day. We need lots of shepherds and angels of all sizes! If you have a child or youth – we need their help to tell this sacred story! They’ll be practicing on December 3rd and 10th  from 4 to 5pm. (And performing on the 24th in Sunday morning worship.)  Meet in the Sanctuary this Sunday at 4pm to begin  practicing! For questions – don’t hesitate to reach out to Jaimee or Alice at Church –    821-5335.     I’d love for you to tell me your favorite Christmas movies! (Email Me.).    Glad to be in ministry with you!    Peace,  Kara
